The God We Serve Part 2 of 3
We are emphasizing what kind of God we serve. Last month, we portrayed God as being an "all wise" God. In this article, we want to portray Him as a "God of Love." James 1:17, says, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights…" Have you ever thought about all the good things you have received, and where they came from? We did not obtain them of ourselves. Things we take for granted, such as our family, home, job, and our health. Everything has been given to us by God. Yet we fail to recognize this.
1 Timothy 6:17 Paul tells us, "Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy:" God does not give these things to us, because of obligation, but for us to enjoy.
Then there is the thought, ":God is harsh, God is such an angry God, for He punishes people. Hebrews 12:6-7 says "For whom the Lord loveth he chaseneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth." Many a person has stood before a judge and said, "My parents don’t care what I do, they don’t love me." That is why God corrects us. He loves us, and does not want us to continue doing that which is wrong.
