Standing Firm In Christ
As we read the Bible, there is one thought that stands out from Genesis to Revelation. God instructs His people to stand firm and be unmovable.
To do this, we have to lay aside the old man (Ephesians 4:22, 24), the old nature and put on the nature of Christ and in our eagerness to serve God, we have to sift through many voices (1 Cor. 14:10), believe this, follow this. What are we to do? We are to follow what the Bible says. So many listen to T.V. ministers or some movie, based (?) on scripture.
But Jesus said in John 12:48, "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day." To avoid being led astray, we then need to know what God’s Word says and hold to it, for our eternal life depends on it.
Someone may say, we are saved by grace, and that is true (Eph. 2:8-9). But when does that happen? That happens at conversion (1 Cor. 1:18, 15:1-2, for Paul speaks in the past tense). When Jesus comes, He will judge us, not by the amount of grace we have received, but by our works, how we have firmly stood by His word (Matthew 16:27, John 12:48, Revelation 22:12-14).
