Is
Sickness Evidence of God’s Displeasure?
From time to time, when we contact an incurable disease, we may feel we have done something that displeased God. If so, it takes some explaining of scripture, for us to get over this feeling. But yet, there are some scriptures that could give us that feeling.
In Numbers 12:1-8, Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses, for marrying an Ethiopian woman. Their feelings were very strong. We find in verse 9, that God was very angry because of their outburst. In verse 10, God struck Miriam with leprosy. Then in verse 11, And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.”
Then in 2 Samuel 11:4 David committed adultery. In 2 Sam. 13:9, he committed murder. After he had the woman’s husband killed, then married her, and had a child. In verse 15, the child became very sick, because of David’s sin, the child died (verse 18).
It appears, God did punish individuals for their sins through sickness. So unless we look at the scripture as a whole, we may wonder, is God punishing me through sickness?
Next week, we will look at some scriptures in the New Testament.
