Different Kinds of Angels Part 2 of 4
We are speaking about angels, the different kinds, their purpose, etc. The subject has no bearing on our salvation, but it is always good to learn more about God and His heavenl famil.
In 1 Kings 8:7 we learn of another kind of angel, "For the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above." These angels are called cherubims and had only two wings. Their job seemingly was to protect. As in the symbol in the above verse, also, in Genesis 3:24, "So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life." Here, they were stationed to protect the entrance to the "tree of life."
First, we had angels called seraphims, which had six wings, angles called cherubims with two wings. In Genesis 19:1, "AND there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them…"These angels had no wings and looked like men. Seemingly, their mission was to bring a message to Lot (verses 12-13). Next week we will examine these angels more fully. Check our church website
