The Mountain of Transfiguration Part 3 of 4
We are discussing Matthew 17:1-3, and what the message is all about. Peter, James and John were on the mountain with Jesus and saw Moses and Elias talking with Jesus. Moses and Elias have long been dead, so how could they be talking with Jesus. Jesus gives us the answer in verse 9, And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man… So each of them saw Peter, James and John in a vision (dream) talking with Jesus.
God tells us what the message is, in verse 5, While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
Why is God emphasizing, He wants them to listen to His Son. The message is in Moses and Elias. Moses is the law giver (Moses Law, the law written in a book, Deut. 31:24), the law that was a shadow of Him to come (Heb. 10:1) Elias represents the prophets. Israel had been listening to the law and the prophets, since they had left Egypt. But now they were to listen to Jesus the Son of God.
